We will strengthen colorectal cancer screening
Until the modernization of the equipment at the workplace of the center for the screening of colorectal cancer IV. the internal clinics of the General University Hospital in Prague spend more than 2 million crowns. The acquisition of three high-resolution video colonoscopes will enable the capacity of two endoscopic examination rooms to be increased. Above all, the times between individual examinations will be shortened and subsequent therapeutic procedures will also be improved. The project is co-financed by the European Union from the Tools for Recovery and Resilience (RRF) through the National Recovery Plan of the Czech Republic.
The implementation of the project, which already started in May of this year and will last for twenty months, will lead to the innovation of medical technology, thereby increasing the effectiveness of the colorectal cancer screening center at IV. internal clinic - gastroenterology and hepatology clinic of the 1st Faculty of Medicine of the UK and VFN in Prague. The need for higher efficiency results from the society-wide demand for a greater number of screening colonoscopies performed.
The screening changed the dire statistics
"The colorectal cancer screening program is an example of a successful cancer prevention program. With the increasing number of individuals involved in screening, the Czech Republic has succeeded in reversing the unfavorable development in the incidence of colorectal cancer in recent years, and our country has thus left the unflattering first ranks in the incidence of this tumor." says prof. MD Radan Brůha, CSc., head of IV. internal clinics – clinics of gastroenterology and hepatology 1. LF UK and VFN. Doctors at VFN perform approximately three thousand colonoscopy examinations annually, of which around 10% are screening.
