New system of co-payments for medicines

Co-payments are amounts that the insured person pays for a partially reimbursed medicinal product or food for special medical purposes. These co-payments are included in the annual protective co-payment limit. Once you reach your limit, you no longer pay co-payments. Your health insurance company will cover the remaining amount for you.

This limit is set by law and varies according to the patient's age and health condition as follows:

  • CZK 500 for seniors over 70 years of age and persons who have been recognized as disabled in the 2nd or 3rd degree.
  • CZK 1,000 for those under 18 and people over 65.
  • CZK 5,000 for other adults.

No more overpayments for medications!

In the past, if an insured exceeded their limit during a calendar year, the health insurance company refunded the excess either by means of payment slips or to their account. However, some of these payments failed to be delivered. The new system solves this problem, saves you time and money, and will also reduce the administrative burden on insurance companies. The ePrescription system will automatically monitor deductible co-payments. The pharmacist will immediately find out when dispensing whether you have reached your protective limit. In addition, you can check your status in the ePrescription mobile or web application. No more complicated paperwork or waiting for a refund.

Another advantage is that the obligation of insured persons to prove to health insurance companies that they are entitled to a reduced protection limit will be eliminated. This is thanks to the connection of data between health insurance companies and the Czech Social Security Administration. The reduced protection limit will also be set for insured persons who meet the conditions but have not yet submitted the relevant document to their health insurance companies.

However, the obligation to pay remains:

  • non-reimbursable part of the additional payment
  • full price of medications without insurance reimbursement
