The geriatrics clinic has been modernized
In the building in Strahov, the Dialysis Center of the Internal Department of Strahov operated from 1971 until the end of 2021. Geriatric patients have now moved to the new premises. The complete reconstruction of all rooms – patient rooms and staff facilities, central oxygen piping along with the external reconstruction of the building, construction of a new outdoor oxygen station, access road and expansion of the parking area required an investment of approximately 80 million crowns, together with the contribution of a donor. "With this major investment, we solved several problems in record time. The increasing need for healthcare for an aging population, greater comfort for patients in a fully barrier-free building. Here, we can provide them with the broader care that their health problems require," stated the director of VFN prof. MD David Feltl, Ph.D., MBA, added: "I am happy that the patients and staff of the clinic will be in a modern, top-class equipped and dignified environment that corresponds to the health care of the twenty-first century."
The workplace is not intended for patients requiring long-term care (hospital for the long-term sick, LDN), but offers acute geriatrics beds for older patients with acute illness and functional deterioration, patients after injuries or operations, and early rehabilitation beds for patients after cerebrovascular accidents and orthopedic procedures (orthogeriatrics). At full operation, 800 to 1,000 patients pass through the inpatient department per year.
