World Sepsis Day, September 13, 2019
Today is World Sepsis Day and the goal of this annual event is to raise awareness of sepsis (blood poisoning) and possibly save lives. At Smartdiagnos, an innovative project funded by EU-Horizon 2020, we are also involved in the fight against sepsis. Over the past 3.5 years, ten academic and business partner organizations have been working on this project to develop two diagnostic devices that would be able to detect early sepsis to save life.
Charles University in Prague is one of the partners in this project. During the fall of this year until the end of January 2020, we will be testing these new devices using patient samples at three clinical sites in Europe. The new methods detect microorganisms and resistance markers directly from whole blood. A quick diagnostic test result will reduce the time to diagnose sepsis, every minute counts!
