An XXL center for obese patients will be established in the General Hospital
There are dozens of people weighing more than 200 or 250 kilograms in the Czech Republic, but ordinary hospitals are not ready for them. VFN will therefore create the first XXL center with comprehensive care.
"The idea to build centers focusing on the comprehensive treatment of morbidly obese people has been in the Czech healthcare system for eight or ten years. I am glad that after years of discussions, our hospital managed to turn the vision into a real project. We will finance the very first Czech XXL center with European money and I believe that it will open to the first patients within two to three years, " said the director of VFN prof. MUDr. David Feltl, Ph.D., MBA.
Over 150,000 people in the Czech Republic suffer from third-degree obesity (BMI over 40). The number of patients weighing over 200 or 250 kilograms is also rising. It is not easy for them to find a medical facility that would treat them internally, surgically or dentally. For the treatment of morbidly obese patients, the hospital plans to equip its key clinics with special equipment. It is necessary to set up specially equipped surgeries, operating rooms, tables with a large load capacity, as well as reinforced chairs, special beds, elevators with a higher load capacity, it is necessary to think about wider door frames, transport carts, adapted tools and examination devices of larger dimensions.. "We would also like to equip our clinics with bed lifts or build ramps into a special room. We also need XXL ambulances, specially adapted for CT, magnetic resonance imaging, gastroscopy devices, a line for invasive cardiology or, for example, rehabilitation aids, such as a treadmill, "Explained doc. Martin Matoulek, Ph.D., physician III. internal clinics - clinics of endocrinology and metabolism VFN and 1. LF.
