We will offer better care to alcohol addicts
Ten times more people die each year from alcohol intoxication (overdose) in the Czech Republic than from poisoning with illegal addictive substances. ""Several tens of thousands of people addicted to alcohol are treated on an outpatient or inpatient basis every year," says Prof. PhDr. Michal Miovský, Ph.D., Head of the Clinic of Addiction Medicine, 1st Faculty of Medicine, Charles University and General University Hospital in Prague. Alcohol habits have been significantly negatively affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Clinic of Addiction Medicine decided to respond to the developments of recent years with a decisive step and in the second half of 2024 launched the largest reorganization and adjustment of its inpatient operations since their establishment in 1948. "We are currently gradually launching and incorporating into practice a modern, flexible model of comprehensive treatment care that meets the latest trends in the field of addiction medicine," says the head of the clinic, Prof. PhDr. Michal Miovský, Ph.D.
