Course for midwives in the delivery room
The purpose of the course is to acquire special professional competencies that will expand the competencies of midwives in the field of highly specific perinatological care. The aim is to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills and competences for a midwife that entitle her to:
• for the application of ATB in mothers with positive detection of group B streptococci (GBS) in a culture vaginorectal finding, without indication by a doctor
• for systemic administration and indication of epidural analgesia, including operation of an epidural catheter in cooperation with an anesthesiologist without the indication of an obstetrician
• for active leadership III. delivery time to prevent excessive bleeding, according to the WHO recommended procedure without a doctor's indication
• for the treatment of birth injuries up to 2nd degree perineal rupture with the application of a local anesthetic without the indication of a doctor.
Course Objective:
- The aim of the certified course is to prepare non-medical health professionals (midwives) for specific areas of activities and competencies for which graduates acquire special professional qualifications for work in the field of care for the woman in labor. After completing the course, midwives will be able to lead the birth independently at the so-called Low Risk pregnant women during hospitalization in maternity facilities.
Entry requirements:
The course is designed for midwives working for at least 5 years in the delivery room.
Schedule:
Total number of teaching hours in the theoretical and practical part: 65 hours.
Total length of the program: 5 months.
Course date in 2025:
October 2025 – March 2026
Venue:
The course will take place at the Gynecology and Obstetrics Clinic of the General Hospital in Prague and the 1st Medical Faculty of Charles University, maternity wards and a classroom of practical training with modern teaching simulators for obstetrics.
