Workplace characteristics
The 1st Surgical Clinic is a joint workplace of the General University Hospital in Prague and the First Faculty of Medicine of Charles University in Prague and provides the highest medical, professional care, research and development work, and the teaching of surgical disciplines and nursing care at master's and bachelor's degree courses at 1. Faculty of Medicine, Charles University in Prague and undergraduate and postgraduate students of Czech and foreign students and doctors.
Every year, the 1st Surgical Clinic treats 80,000 - 90,000 patients, performs around 10,000 operations both on the outpatient and in hospitalized patients or in a counseling center. The number of hospitalizations is around 5,000 - 6,000. There are 128 beds and 18 intensive care beds available at the clinic. There are 10 operating theaters available in the clinical and polyclinic part. At the 1st Surgical Clinic and its polyclinic component, he works in various positions for both the General Hospital and the 1st Medical Faculty of Charles University, but also as solvers of scientific and research tasks - a total of 50 physicians (including physicians specializing in internal medicine and intensive care physicians). 220 employees work in non-medical fields.
The 1st Department of Surgery introduces and promotes modern medical and nursing procedures and strives to ensure that staff not only performs good work, but is also patient-friendly. Our goal is that the healing and satisfied patients leave the clinic.
Medical staff
The sister staff is highly skilled with specialization in ARIP and nursing care in surgery. At the clinic, we use modern medical and nursing methods in which nurses are appropriately trained, for example, in the field of wound healing using the Vacuum Assisted Closure (VAC) system or using an ultrasonic wound cleaner. There are graduates of certified stoma care courses and wound healing courses. Our nurses are active members of the Stomatological Team of the General Teaching Hospital and act as lecturers of the certified Stomic Care course.
A stoma clinic was set up at the 1st Surgical Clinic to provide patients with high-quality treatment and at the same time provide stomics education and help them select appropriate and quality ostomy aids. In addition, the 1st Surgical Clinic established cooperation with the Czech ILCO, a voluntary association of stomics. Our sisters are also active in the Wound Healing Team. There is also a process of certifying the treatment and healing of wounds, which will allow for even better quality of patient care within the General Teaching Hospital and its practical training will take place at the 1st Surgical Clinic.
