We treat all corneal diseases, especially keratoconus, corneal dystrophies, dry eye syndrome, inflammation of the conjunctiva, cornea and sclera. We treat patients with corneal manifestations arising as a result of a number of general diseases, e.g. rheumatoid arthritis. Thanks to the close cooperation with the rheumatology institute, comprehensive treatment affecting the primary cause is ensured. We also deal with autoimmune conjunctivitis (e.g. ocular cicatricial pemphigoid) and administer their immunosuppressive therapy.
We also transplant the amniotic membrane, which is used primarily to improve corneal healing and reinforcement in the case of thinning or perforation (this technique is the only one in the Czech Republic). We deal with the issue of recurrent pterygias by conjunctival autotransplantation, which is very effective in these cases. In patients with lower grade keratoconus, we perform the Collagen Cross Linking (CXL) method to stop the progression of the disease in the vast majority of people affected. We work closely with the center applying hard and soft contact lenses, which are mainly used in the treatment of keratoconus and irregular astigmatism. We also do research on hereditary corneal diseases, and publish our findings in this area in the best international eye magazines.

The department is the only one in the Czech Republic to carry out comprehensive diagnostics of monogenic eye diseases. In cooperation with the Department of Pediatrics and Hereditary Disorders of Metabolism, the 1st Faculty of Medicine of the UK and VFN in Prague, a molecular genetic cause is being sought for selected diseases. Thanks to the Center's activities, in 2016 the Ophthalmology Clinic was the only healthcare provider from the Czech Republic to be involved in the European Reference Network for Rare Eye Disease (ERN-EYE).
