VFN helps people with sexual deviations
New data on sexual deviations of Czechs! Experts from VFN open therapy groups for people with problematic sexuality
The next part of the survey of the National Institute of Mental Health CZECHSEX concerning the paraphilic preferences of Czechs and the results of the Paraphilic therapeutic program confirm the need for interdisciplinary cooperation in the care of at-risk persons and their loved ones. Preferences for non-consensual sex lead among the deviations. A total of 8.8% of respondents indicate some paraphilic preference. 30% of them cause problems, but only 7% have sought professional help. The therapeutic groups of the Institute of Sexology 1. LF UK and VFN make it possible to ensure timely therapeutic care for people with paraphilias and are an effective strategy for reducing sexual delinquency. In addition, for the first time in the Czech Republic, the survey provides data on the problematic sexual behavior of Czechs in the online world.
The new therapeutic groups of the Institute of Sexology of the 1st Faculty of Medicine of the UK and VFN offer therapeutic care to people with paraphilic preferences and their loved ones to help them manage problematic sexual behavior. The opening of new groups is a continuation of the Paraphilia program and responds to current CZECHSEX research data, which revealed that only a low percentage of people with paraphilia actually seek professional help. "Therapeutic groups are an effective tool for highly specialized care in the field of sexology, which, however, is currently accessible mainly within the framework of constitutionally mandated sexological treatment to people who have committed a sexually motivated crime. We are now trying to change that at VFN. Professional care should also be available for people who want to solve problems in the field of sexual and gender health actively and on their own." explains MUDr. Libor Zámečník, Ph.D, FEBU, FECSM, MBA, head of the Institute of Sexology of the 1st Faculty of Medicine, UK and VFN. The institute offers several groups focused on the specific needs of the participants – a group for people with paraphilia preferences, a group for people with compulsive sexual behavior (in layman's terms with "sex addiction") and, uniquely, a group for close people of people with paraphilias. "The group for loved ones is intended for partners and family members who are looking for support and information on how to cope with a difficult life situation associated with this topic", adds Mgr. Leona Šímová, psychologist and head of the therapy group for loved ones of the Sexological Institute of the 1st Faculty of Medicine of the UK and VFN.
The nationwide CZECHSEX survey was carried out by a team of researchers from NUDZ and the Institute of Sexology of the 1st Faculty of Medicine of the UK and VFN. It took place from December 2023 to March 2024 and a total of 6,669 respondents participated. Data collection took place online and by personal interviewing, a representative sample of the Czech population was ensured by quota selection.
